Green Bay Packers face Cincinnati in tonight's 3rd preseason game

CINCINNATI (WTAQ) - The Green Bay Packers have made some big changes on defense – and the coaches will get their first real indication Thursday night of how well they’re working.

The Packers will play at Cincinnati in their third exhibition game. And unlike the other pre-season affairs, the starters will go for the first half or longer.

You can hear all the action with Packers Gameday at 4 p.m., followed by kick-off just after 6 p.m. on 97.5/1360 News Talk WTAQ.

Defensive coordinator Dom Capers expects to learn for the first time how well his players fit into the overall scheme of things – and that doesn’t mean just grading the rookies.

Capers also wants to see how veteran corner Charles Woodson fits into his new assignment as the safety in the Packers’ base defense – and whether D.J. Smith can adequately replace injured inside linebacker Desmond Bishop.

The coaches also want to see how third-year safety Morgan Burnett has matured. And of course, they want to see if first-round rookie Nick Perry can take some pressure off Clay Matthews at the other outside linebacker spot.

Capers will also see how rookie defensive linemen Jerel Worthy and Mike Daniels fit in with veterans B.J. Raji and Ryan Pickett.
