MARINETTE, WI (WTAQ) - Marinette Representative John Nygren is asking the Wisconsin Department of Transportation to conduct a safety study along Highway 41 between Peshtigo and Marinette.

"Over the last decade, Highway 41 has become increasingly more dangerous and it is time to take the necessary action in order to ensure that no more individuals lose their lives along Highway 41," says Nygren.

The Republican lawmaker says he's spoken with constituents who've lost friends and loved ones in fatal crashes there over the past several years. Nygren admits he lost a good friend just last year.

"It is my hope that the Department of Transportation can make recommendations that will make this corridor safer while maintaining the critical access necessary," says Nygren.

Nygren suggested the speed limit could be lower. He also wants to balance access to businesses in that stretch of Highway 41 with any potential changes to the road.
