MILWAUKEE (WRN)  First Lady Tonette Walker had a successful appendectomy early on Wednesday morning, according to a statement from the governor’s office. Governor Scott Walker spent the night with her and she is recovering well.

Walker had attended a Sikh community gathering in Oak Creek Tuesday night remembering the victims of Sunday’s Temple shooting, but left early because his wife had been hospitalized for tests after experiencing stomach pain.

Two of the governor’s events scheduled for today have been cancelled, including the Wisconsin State Cranberry Growers Association Summer Meeting in Hancock, and an appearance in Janesville.

On Twitter, the governor said this morning, “Tonette had a successful appendectomy early this am. I spent the night with her and she is recovering well. Thx for prayers!”
