Actor John Finnegan has died following a battle with pneumonia.

The 85 year old died at his home in Palm Desert, California on Sunday (29Jul12).

Finnegan was perhaps best known for his appearances opposite the late Peter Falk in Columbo, in which he played a string of different characters.

He also featured in films like The Natural, JFK and lent his voice to animated hit An American Tail.
