It Appears Veteran Tiger’s Infielder Brandon Inge Will Stick With The Club

Tiger manager Jim Leyland said Tuesday that veteran infielder Brandon Inge is staying with the club and will play some part-time second base and fill-in if necessary at third. Inge, who hit just .180 this spring, was placed on the 15-day disabled list yesterday with a left groin strain.

Also, Detroit right-handed pitcher Luis Marte was put on the D-L with a left hamstring injury. His roster spot was taken by lefty hurler Duane Below.

The Tigers dropped their final Grapefruit League game yesterday, losing 13-to-8 to the Blue Jays and they left Florida with a 20-8-and-5 record.

This afternoon, Detroit will play an exhibition game at Toledo against their Triple-A farm club and then tomorrow afternoon, it’s the season opener at Comerica Park against the Red Sox.

The major league baseball season picks up again tonight following last week’s pair of Seattle-Oakland games in Japan with the World Champion St. Louis Cardinals in Florida to play the Miami Marlins in their brand new Marlins Park.
