MADISON, WI (WHTC) - Just how healthy are those who live along the Lakeshore? According to the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Allegan and Ottawa counties are among the healthiest in Michigan. The annual 2012 County Health Rankings released today showed that Ottawa County was second among this state’s 83 counties in Health Outcomes, which include mortality and morbidity, and fifth in Health Factors such as behaviors, clinical care, social and economic factors, and physical environment. Allegan County placed 18th and 26th in those rankings, respectively. The only category that both counties fared poorly was in physical environment, mainly due to air pollution wafting over from across Lake Michigan.
