SHEBOYGAN, WI (WTAQ) - The Sheboygan City Council is expected to take final votes Monday night on hiring two attorneys in an effort to remove embattled Mayor Bob Ryan.
The aldermen could also reduce the mayor’s authority by hiring an administrator to handle the city’s day to day business.
The Council has approved both measures in the last few weeks while serving as a Committee of the Whole – but sometimes, that doesn’t mean much.
Last fall, the Council unanimously endorsed a city administrator as a Committee of the Whole – but their final approval fell one vote short.
Ryan is under fire for 3 major alcohol-related episodes since becoming Sheboygan’s mayor in 2009. The last one was in July, when Ryan admitted going on a three-day binge in Elkhart Lake.
As a Committee of the Whole, the aldermen have endorsed the hirings of two attorneys to handle formal complaints against Ryan.
Another committee vote recommended the hiring of city finance director Jim Amodeo as Sheboygan’s first administrator effective next month.
