LACROSSE, Wis.(WHBL) - Congressman Ron Kind of La Crosse said this morning he would not run for the U-S Senate seat to be given up by his fellow Democrat Herb Kohl next year. The 15-year House incumbent and former La Crosse County district attorney said he was urged by many supporters in the state to run for the Senate. But Kind said quote, “Now is not my time.” He also said a divisive Democratic primary would not serve the interests of the state – and it would not reduce what he called “hyper-partisanship” he said is quote, “needlessly tearing apart our state and country.” Kind’s decision could pave the way for House Democrat Tammy Baldwin of Madison to win the Democratic Senate nomination next fall. There’s also been talk that former House Democrat Steve Kagen of Appleton would run. This is the second time in two years Kind said thanks-but-no-thanks to a statewide bid for office. He also rejected calls to run for Wisconsin governor in 2009, soon after incumbent Jim Doyle said he would not seek another term.
