MILWAUKEE, WI (WTAQ) - Education Secretary Arne Duncan says the schools portion of President Obama’s new jobs package would provide money to hire 7,400 teachers in Wisconsin.

Duncan was in the same last week to talk to educators.

The President urged Congress early Monday to pass the jobs bill quickly.

It will reportedly include $169 million for the Milwaukee School District to renovate or build schools.  Additional money would be directed to the rest of the state.

Duncan says investments in American schools are needed to keep them competing with schools in other countries.

U.S. Senator Ron Johnson joined Duncan in his Milwaukee visit, saying he wants to break the President’s plan into smaller pieces, to make sure the money would be spent well.
