STURGEON BAY, WI (WTAQ) - The body of a missing canoeist on Lake Michigan washed up onto shore Monday, a month after disappearing. 45-year-old Mayur Patel from Highland Park, Illinois went missing October 16th while out canoeing with a friend in an area southeast of Washington Island in Door County. Their canoe capsized sending both men into the water. Patel stayed behind, while his friend swam to shore to get help. Door County Sheriff’s say neither men were wearing life jackets. Dive teams searched the area for a couple days until weather conditions made the effort impossible to manage, and the recovery effort was suspended. Patel's body was found washed ashore Monday, about a quarter of a mile from the original accident scene.
