RACINE, Wis (WSAU) State Assembly Republican Robin Vos has over 20 houses that he rents to college students at U-W Whitewater. And despite a much-publicized tenant dispute, the Racine Journal Times found no major complaints about Vos's other properties.
The paper interviewed city code officials in Whitewater, along with tenants at 15 of Vos's 21 rental properties. The Racine County lawmaker caught some heat when he proposed a bill to limit attorney fees in consumer lawsuits to three times the amount of a settlement -- and he never disclosed that he faced 20-thousand dollars in legal fees in a $2,000-plus settlement over one of his Whitewater properties.
The bill awaits Governor Scott Walker's signature after both houses passed it. Vos said it would not apply to his case, but critics said a judge could still reduce his legal fees to the amount Vos proposed in his bill -- which would be around $6,500.
