Gas Prices Could Spike Over the Weekend

Milwaukee, WI (WHBL) - You might see a sudden 15-to-20-cent increase in gas prices just before the Memorial Day Weekend begins. That’s what several analysts predicted yesterday, as a problem at an Exxon Mobil refinery in Joliet Illinois caused a sharp rise in wholesale prices in the Upper Midwest. The Triple-“A” says the increase is very slight so far. The motor club said the average price of unleaded regular was 3.82-point-seven a gallon in Wisconsin this morning. That’s up almost a penny-and-a-half from yesterday, and it’s still 12 cents cheaper than a week ago. Milwaukee Gas Prices-Dot-Com reports an average of 3.84-and-a-half today – up one-tenth-of-a-cent from yesterday, and a nickel cheaper than a week ago. Pam Moen of the state’s Triple-“A” says the spike in gas prices should be short-lived – and it’s unfortunate that it’s coming at the first major travel holiday of the year. Patrick DeHaan of Gas Buddy-Dot-Com says prices should jump to around 3.95 in metro Milwaukee tomorrow, and then hold steady over the holiday weekend.
