WUAKESHA, Wis. (WTAQ) - Waukesha’s application for Lake Michigan water will be pronounced complete in the next two weeks, according to state Department of Natural Resources officials.
That will set in motion a state review of the city’s request and launch two public hearings in July.
A special water negotiating team would start the bargaining for possible purchase of lake water, Water Utility officials said. The city’s favored option is Milwaukee since it is closer and costs to pipe water to Waukesha would be lower.
If the DNR approves Waukesha’s application by early next year, a water purchase agreement has to be in place before seeking approval from each of the other seven Great Lakes states.
