Tempe, AZ (WHBL-Learfield) - The Milwaukee Brewers won another exhibition slug-fest yesterday, 11-to-8 over the Angels of Anaheim in Tempe Arizona. Yuniesky Betancourt hit his first homer of the spring, a three-run blast in the first inning off Angels’ starter Scott Kazmir. Milwaukee jumped out to an 8-nothing lead after two frames, as they churned out 13 hits. Carlos Gomez, Craig Counsell, and Erick Amonte had two hits apiece. Randy Wolf started for the Brew Crew, and gave up four runs in five-and-a-third innings. Third baseman Casey McGehee left in the first inning after he was hit by a pitch in the right knee-cap. X-rays came back negative, and McGehee is day-to-day with a contusion.

All nine of Milwaukee’s projected Opening Day starters have had some kind of injury or illness this spring. Manager Ron Roenicke said catcher Jonathan Lucroy and right-fielder Corey Hart would probably not be ready for next Thursday’s regular season opener at Cincinnati. Each took about 50 swings yesterday in their most extensive batting practice since their injuries – Hart with a left rib cage and Lucroy with a broken finger. But the manager questioned whether the two could get enough work in to be ready for Thursday’s opener. Meanwhile, the Brewers have returned Rule-Five draft pick Pat Egan to Baltimore. Also, the Orioles returned Rule-Five pitcher Adrian Rosario to the Brewers – and he’ll be assigned to Class-“A” Brevard County. Milwaukee will play Cleveland this afternoon in another spring training contest.
