BREAKING: Wisconsin Assembly Passes Budget Without Debate 55-42

MADISON, WI (WTAQ) - In an unusual move, the Wisconsin Assembly passed the proposed two-year state budget without much of a debate. The abrupt vote was 55-42. MARINETTE, Wis. (WTAQ) - The mayor of Marinette is refusing to let people circulate recall petitions at City Hall.

Those trying to recall state Senate Democrat Dave Hansen wanted to let City Hall workers in Marinette sign petitions to force a recall election – just like workers at the Oconto and Green Bay city halls are allowed to do.

But Mayor Bob Harbick says he doesn’t want to stir up the same kind of emotions at City Hall that boiled over at the State Capitol in recent weeks. The mayor also said he doesn’t agree with the recall effort, but not because Hansen’s a Democrat.

He says elected officials should have a chance to serve out their entire terms to do what they set out to do.

Hansen and other Senate Democrats are being targeted for recalls because they skipped out of Madison for 3 weeks to hold up a vote on the budget repair bill.

Republicans are also recall targets for their votes in favor of virtually ending collective bargaining by most public employee unions.

All 16 senators who are eligible for recalls have been targeted.
