Red Wings defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom is set to return for the 2011-12 season. Detroit’s 41-year old team captain will be preparing for his 20th N-H-L season. The one-year deal is reportedly worth 6.2 million dollars.
Lidstrom is again a finalist for the Norris Trophy as the league's top defenseman. He's already won the honor six times. Lidstrom has been with the Red Wings since the 1991-92 season and has been a part of four Stanley Cup championship teams in Hockeytown.
This past season, he played all 82 games for the second straight year and was the team's second-leading scorer with 62 points, having recorded 16 goals and 46 assists.
