NEW YORK (Reuters) - The wife of Representative Anthony Weiner, ensnared in a sex scandal for sending lewd pictures of himself over the Internet, is pregnant, the New York Times reported on Wednesday.
Huma Abedin, an aide to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton who married the congressman a year ago, is expecting the couple's first child, the Times reported, citing three unnamed people with knowledge of the situation.
Weiner, a rising star in the Democratic Party who many had seen as the next mayor of New York, is resisting calls that he resign.
On Monday he admitted sending the photos after vehemently denying it for more than a week when he claimed he was the victim of hacking. He tearfully admitted lying about the scandal at a news conference in which he also disclosed having sexually charged chats with several women.
