MILWAUKEE (WTAQ) - A Milwaukee police officer was still hospitalized in critical condition Monday night, after he was struck by a vehicle while standing outside his squad car.
The offending driver fled after the crash, which happened on Sunday afternoon.
Police Chief Ed Flynn said the department's thoughts and prayers are with the officer, 37-year-old Frank Vrtochnick and his family.
Officials said a sedan driver was on the wrong side of the road when he jumped a curb, and hit Vrtochnick as he stood outside his squad.
Police described the vehicle as a dark mid-sized sedan with front end damage and a missing passenger-side mirror.
