ALLENDALE, MI (WHTC) - Damage was substantial, but there were no injuries reported in a house fire south of the downtown Allendale business district on Sunday afternoon. According to authorities, crews from four departments responded to the blaze on Maple Brook Drive, in the area of 68th Avenue and Pierce Street. The fire apparently started in the garage and spread to the home that it was attached to. Firewalls in the house kept the flames from spreading further. The homeowner was able to escape safely. No initial dollar estimate of damage was made by investigators, but they did conclude that a pickup truck parked in the garage was a total loss, and much of the harm to the house came more through smoke damage than the fire, which remains under investigation.
