Michigan State pulled away in the second half last night to beat Central Connecticut 89-to-69 at the Breslin Center, giving the Spartans their seventh straight win.
Freshman point guard Travis Trice scored twenty points off the bench to lead Michigan State while Draymond Green had 14 points and 9 rebounds. Derrick Nix added 13 points and Branden Dawson had a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
The Spartans were up just 36-to-34 at halftime and it’s an understatement to say that Michigan State Coach Tom Izzo wasn’t very pleased with his team’s performance, based on Izzo’s opening remarks at his post game news conference.
It wasMichiganState’s 300th win in 344 games at the Breslin Center, which opened in 1989. The 7-and-2 Spartans return to action Saturday with a road game against Gonzaga.
Also last night, Oakland University lost at home to Ohio U. 84-to-82 as the visiting Bobcats snapped the Grizzlies 6-game winning streak. Oakland slips to 6-and-3 while the Bobcats are off to a 6-and-1 start.
