MAPLE GROVE, WI (WTAQ) - Lightning Tuesday night causes a fire at a Town of Maple Grove home.
“The homeowner was at home at the time. He said they were having supper and all of the sudden a big crack and he didn't think nothing of it,” Randy Wichlacz, Pulaski Tri-County Fire Chief, told FOX 11.
He says that crack was lightning hitting this house off Lawn Road.
Wichlacz says the family of three inside tried putting out the fire themselves before calling for help around 7:00 p.m. A next door neighbor saw the commotion and came over to help before firefighters arrived.
Wichlacz says the family all made it out safe without injury. But some firefighters were hurt during the ordeal.
“One got taken to Bellin with an eye injury and the other ones being taken away right now, he had some heat exposure,” says Wichlacz.
Wichlacz says he doesn't know the extent of those injuries, but says things here had potential to be much worse.
