Howard Fire Dept. out of commission due to roof fire

HOWARD, WI (WTAQ) - A Village of Howard fire station is out of commission indefinitely due to a roof fire.

Fire Chief Ed Janke says a passerby noticed smoke and flames around 12:45 p.m.  Several fire deparments were on the scene and contained the fire to rear stroage area.  It took about 30 minutes to get the fire under control.

Janke says they were able to pull out two fire trucks, a Brown County brush fire vehicle, and all of their equipment.

The cause of the fire is still being looked into.

Howard Fire Station 2 is a unstaffed location that is home for on-call firefighters equipment.

Janke says response time to future fire calls won't be dramatically affected.  Green Bay Fire Station 4 on the Westside has already agreed to assit with any calls.
