INDIANAPOLIS, IN (WIBQ) -- The Indiana State Fair opens with a memorial service this morning after a stage collapsed on Saturday night. Five people were killed and 45 were hurt. Jessica Silas told WTHR TV in Indianapolis that she had a bad feeling as she shot video of the collapse.
“All of a sudden, the wind started to pick up and you could see dust coming out of the track area. People started screaming because of the dust, and thenm all of a sudden — ten, 15 seconds later — the canvas on the top of the stage go up, and then the whole stage just fell down”
Winds at the time were believed to be 70 miles an hour.
The Indiana State Fair was closed on Sunday, and Indiana State Police 1st Sargent Dave Bursten said the death tol could go higher.
