MADISON, Wis. (WTAQ) - Want to keep track of a particular runner in a long race?
There’s an app for that, thanks to a UW Madison business student. Eric Baum won $10,000 in the UW’s first Qualcomm Wireless Innovation contest.
The smart-phone app is called “Runner’s Fan.”
Baum got the idea for it after he and his girlfriend ran in a half-marathon – and when he got to the finish line, he had no idea if the woman was still on the course.
Baum, an MBA student, teamed up with three others to find a way to monitor a runner’s progress on a running route.
Besides tracking the runner’s location, the app also gives statistics on a runner’s pace and health by incorporating other apps that record things like a person’s heart rate. The app can also be used for other races like cycling or cross-country skiing, and it can help an athlete train for those events.
