UNDATED (WRN) County clerks are preparing their official tallies from the state Supreme Court race, while a recount looms on the horizon. The initial total from Tuesday’s election gives Assistant Attorney General JoAnne Kloppenburg a slight lead over incumbent Justice David Prosser. With such a slim margin, Wisconsin County Clerks Association President Janet Geisler says members are getting ready for a recount.
Geisler says towns, villages, and cities turn their ballots over to each County Clerk, who would oversee the recount with a board of canvassers. She says it’s a process many have gone through before on the local level, so they will do what they need to do.
Geisler says the state Government Accountability Board has sent a memo to County clerks asking them to make sure board members know that a recount is possible. She says it could take place anytime during the last two weeks of April or the first week of May.
