MILWAUKEE, Wis. (WTAQ) - An outgoing state legislator will become a judge on Monday.
Assembly Democrat Pedro Colon of Milwaukee was appointed Wednesday to replace Circuit Judge Patricia McMahon. Governor Jim Doyle made the appointment, and called Colon a “dedicated public servant who will work really hard to uphold fairness and justice.”
Colon spent 12 years in the Legislature, and was its only Hispanic member. In May, he said he would not run for another term when he applied to become the deputy director of legal services at the Milwaukee Metro Sewerage District. He did not get that job.
Colon has been a private attorney since graduating from the UW-Madison law school in 1994. He’ll have to resign from the Legislature before he can be sworn in as a judge.
