ASHLAND, Wis (WSAU) The D-N-R will test deer that are killed in the wild for chronic wasting disease in Ashland County, after a deer on a game-farm tested positive earlier this month. There a concern that there were several holes in the fencing around the game farm, and that deer may have passed freely from the farm into the wild.
The rest of the game farm's herd has been quarantined and will likely be destroyed. It's unknown if any other deer on the farm have C-W-D.
The D-N-R will also take tissue samples from deer that are shot or hit by vehicles in the Ashland area to see if C-W-D has spread into the wild. The testing will take place within a 10-mile radius, and the results won't be known for at least another week.
