GREEN BAY, Wis. (WTAQ) - Investigators have decided to wait until Tuesday to begin the process of nailing down the cause of a massive blaze on Green Bay's west side.

The fire last Friday at Chesnut and Walnut Streets destroyed two businesses and left 16 people homeless.

Fire Capt. Chris Heil says they ironed out some details Monday.

"Insurance company will get a contractor to fence off the perimeter of the building," Heil says. "Between the Green Bay police and fire departments, we'll maintain control of the scene throughout the night and into tomorrow."

Heil says State Farm Insurance will then have a special contractor to help begin work inside the building.

"They've secured a cause and origin investigator and we'll reconvene tomorrow, along with various other investigators and start the process of sifting through the rubble."

There are still walls inside the structure which need to be secured in order to maintain safety and keep possible evidence clean.

Heil called it a unique challenge, but not anything the department can't handle. Damage could get around $1 million.
