EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WTAQ) - Faculty members at UW-Eau Claire have joined their colleagues at UW-Superior in agreeing to form a union. Instructors at Eau Claire voted 233 to 87 to start a chapter of the American Federation of Teachers. That election ended Wednesday.
Faculty members at Superior voted overwhelmingly last week to join the same union. The current state budget allowed about 22,000 UW System faculty members to unionize for the first time.
Bryan Kennedy, who heads the union’s Wisconsin chapter, said it will take a few months for both campuses to negotiate their first contracts. The Board of Regents will eventually have to approve the contracts which will set wages, benefits, and work conditions.
