MADISON, Wis. (WTAQ) - The group “Citizens United” is telling a Wisconsin watchdog group to stop using its name in a protest of the U.S. Supreme Court’s landmark ruling on campaign money. The Wisconsin Democracy Campaign has an Internet petition and a Facebook group that protests the court’s decision to let unions and corporations use their general treasuries to influence elections.

The campaign’s effort is called “Citizens United against Citizens United” – which was the group at the center of the Supreme Court decision a few weeks ago. An attorney for Citizens United has asked the Democracy Campaign to stop using its name, saying it infringes on its trademark. But Mike McCabe of the Democracy Campaign says it’s ironic that that the group is trying to put a lid on free speech.
