Nearly $6M Grant to Help Communities Hit By Automaker Layoffs, Closures

by

WASHINGTON D.C. (WTAQ) - A grant of nearly $6 million from the U.S. Department of Commerce will be used to provide support to communities hit hard by closures and layoffs by automakers.

The program, for Rock and Kenosha counties in Wisconsin and Boone County in Illinois, will be administered by the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. The money will be used to create a network of regional services and incubator facilities to drive business growth in the region.

Services to be offered include technical assistance, global resource development, market diversification, marketing and technology valuation, business retention programs, help with foreign investment and assessment of capital needs.
