RACINE, Wis. (WTAQ) - A former Racine police officer was convicted Tuesday of molesting and beating a teenage girl for several years.
A jury found 35-year-old Damen Lowe guilty on 7 counts of repeated child sexual assault, exposing a child to harmful materials, and physical abuse. He was found not guilty of 3 physical abuse counts.
The girl told authorities last May that Lowe hit her numerous times with his hands and a belt, forced her to have sex, and showed her pornography. On the witness stand, Lowe admitted hitting the girl to discipline her, but he denied having sexual contact.
Lowe was on the Racine police force for 10 years when the allegations were made. He was then put on paid administrative leave, and he resigned as his trial began last week. Lowe will be sentenced on August 25th.
