GRANT COUNTY, Wis. (WTAQ) - An overnight fire destroyed an historic inn in southwest Wisconsin.
Firefighters were called just after 3:45 a.m. Thursday to Chadman’s Inn, located in the small Grant County community of Montfort. No one was hurt. Sheriff’s deputies said flames were shooting through the roof when officers arrived.
The building had a café and a tavern, and Montfort Fire Chief Bob Haase says it’s probably a total loss. It used to be known as the Fountain Street Inn, and media reports said it was believed to be the oldest building in Montfort.
7 fire departments helped battle the blaze. The state Fire Marshal is helping local investigators determine the cause.
