MADISON, Wis. (WTAQ) - 4 state lawmakers say they’ll introduce a bill to require the Veterans’ Affairs Board to have members from all parts of Wisconsin. Assembly Democrat Christine Sinicki of Milwaukee, Assembly Republican Mark Gottlieb of Port Washington, Senate Democrat John Lehman of Racine, and Senate Republican Rob Cowles of Green Bay will hold a news conference on the measure Monday. 4 of the 7 veterans’ board members live in the Madison area – and the others come from western, central, and northern Wisconsin. Critics say most veterans live in the heavily-populated southeast – and the current board does not represent them. Gov. Jim Doyle vetoed a similar type of bill last month to make members of the UW Board of Regents come from all regions of the state. The governor said the board would have ended up with members advocating only their own regions – and not consider the needs of the state as a whole.
