MILWAUKEE, Wis. (WTAQ) - Federal and state investigators will help Milwaukee officials determine the cause of a fire that destroyed a building with 4 businesses and 10 apartments. The five-alarm blaze started just after 3:30 a.m. at the Pizza Man restaurant on Milwaukee’s east side. Officials said it escalated rapidly, and it took almost 6 hours to get the flames under control. Everyone got out safely, and no firefighters were hurt. The city’s arson investigators are among those looking into the incident. Besides the pizza restaurant, the building housed a café, a night club, and a Greek restaurant. The apartments were all on the top floor of the two-story structure – and the Red Cross said at least 2 of the occupants have asked for their help. Acting fire chief Mike Jones said 2 parts of the building collapsed – and suburban fire departments were helping cover other parts of Milwaukee.
