MILWAUKEE, Wis. (WTAQ) - The UW-Milwaukee Water Institute has donated some of its frozen research fish to the needy. The institute and the UW Sea Grant program said they’re giving away 500 pounds of frozen yellow perch to Milwaukee’s Hunger Task Force. The donation is worth about $8,000 – and the food pantries served by the task force will give out the fish in 2 pound packages. It’s the second straight year that the Water Institute has donated frozen fish, and it comes at an important time. Sherrie Tussler says the Hunger Task Force has had a 23 percent increase in those seeking emergency food over the past year.
