PLEASANT PRAIRIE, Wis. (WTAQ) - The Union Pacific Railroad is trying to figure out why two dozen freight cars jumped the tracks in Kenosha County. It happened about 12:30 p.m. Monday in Pleasant Prairie. No one was hurt. A conductor and an engineer were the only ones aboard the 113-car train, and they were about 40 cars away from the damage. Mark Davis of the Union Pacific said 20 of the 24 derailed cars were empty. The others had fertilizer, plywood, and wheat.

The train was heading from Chicago to suburban Milwaukee and then on to St. Paul Minnesota. Davis said about 8 trains a day used the affected tracks, and they’re being re-routed while the damage is being repaired. Davis said crews were planning to work all night to set the derailed cars upright and fix the tracks.
