GREENFIELD, Wis. (WTAQ) - A suburban Milwaukee woman says she’s glad to be alive after a mattress got stuck under her SUV, and it caused the vehicle to burst into flames. It happened in Minnesota on Interstate 494, south of the Twin Cities. Kathleen Rich of Greenfield and her friend Marcia Rogers escaped without a scratch. Rich said the mattress fell off another vehicle on the freeway – and she didn’t see it until it was too late, and it got stuck under vehicle. Other drivers motioned to Rich to get her to pull over, and she stopped on an exit ramp. When they opened their doors, Rich said flames were shooting from the mattress. Another vehicle stopped to help – and after they got in, Rich and Rogers watched the SUV burst into flames.
