Milwaukee to Host American Legion National Convention

by

MILWAUKEE, Wis. (WTAQ) - Milwaukee is gearing up for the arrival of 10,000 veterans next week.

The city is hosting the American Legion’s national convention from August 27th through September 2nd. Some major government figures will also be on hand.

The speakers include Defense Secretary Robert Gates, U.S. Veterans’ Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and House GOP Minority Leader John Boehner.

The Legion is the world’s largest veterans’ organization with 2.6 million members. Most are Vietnam vets. But spokesman Dick Holmes says new veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan are also joining.
