MILWAUKEE, Wis. (WTAQ) - Local governments in Milwaukee and Grant counties are eligible for federal disaster assistance after they received the official declaration Thursday.
Governor Jim Doyle made the announcement. The counties did not qualify for individual assistance for flood victims. Doyle says he’s disappointed the state failed to meet the requirements for individual help from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
Doyle’s original request had included Waukesha County. Flood damage in Milwaukee county has been estimated at $37.5 million. Nearly 10,000 homes were damaged in the county, about 200 sustaining major damage and 5 were destroyed.
