KAUKAUNA, Wis. (WTAQ) - Four people were taken to the hospital after fire breaks out at a Kaukauna home. It happened around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday at 401 West Wisconsin Avenue on the city's north side.
Three people suffered smoke inhalation and a firefighter had to be treated for heat exhaustion. The firefighter has been released.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Witnesses describe what they saw to FOX 11.
"We heard a popping noise that sounded like fireworks," said 34-year-old Chad Debroux. "I noticed an air conditioner engulfed in flames on the side of the home."
Debroux and 28-year-old Troy Kaczmarek were walking home from a softball outing at the time. It was then Debroux says he and his friends went into action, to get the people inside the home out.
"I got halfway up the steps and the smoke was pretty unbearable," said Debroux. "Now it was just to the point of yelling at them, trying to get the people inside the house out."
