BAYFIELD COUNTY, Wis. (WTAQ) - One of Wisconsin’s most famous ski resorts is closing for a third time. The Telemark Lodge at Cable in Bayfield County will shut down completely a week from Wednesday.
The Telemark Interval Owners’ Association agreed last month to sell the lodge to a group called Telemark Partners. But an association member said the partners have not met deadlines to submit earnest money, or provide funding to keep the place going. So Telemark’s hotel, restaurant, and lounge will all be shut down.
Board president Gary Grandall says the association will keep talking with Telemark Partners and other potential buyers. The Telemark Lodge opened in 1947, and it’s had a history of financial problems. These days, it’s best known as the home for the annual American Birkebeiner cross country ski race.
