MILWAUKEE, Wis. (WTAQ) - The head of a Milwaukee immigrant rights’ group expects tens of thousands of people at its annual immigration rally on Saturday. Voces de la Frontera has drawn thousands to its annual May 1st rallies in downtown Milwaukee since 2006.
This year, group director Christine Neumann-Ortiz says the event is more important because of Arizona’s new immigration law. It lets police stop and question people about their immigration status if they believe there’s a reason to suspect that they’re illegal.
More illegal immigrants enter the country via Arizona than any other state. The Milwaukee rally normally focuses on protecting the rights of all immigrant workers, and making it easier for immigrants to become U.S. citizens.
