Group: Nuclear Power Shouldn't Be Used To Fight Global Warming

MADISON (WRN) - An environmental advocacy group says nuclear power should not be one of the solutions to limit global warming. Wisconsin Environment has issued a new report that says nuclear plants take too long to build – and they’re too expensive to have any impact on climate change. The group says the first new reactor in the U.S. probably could not be completed until 2016 at the earliest – and in the meantime, money that’s spent on those plants would be better spent on developing renewable energy. State Assembly Republican Mike Huebsch of West Salem has pushed for a long to repeal Wisconsin’s 30-year-old ban on new nuclear plants. The former Assembly speaker says groups like Wisconsin Environment are still living in what he calls the 1970’s hysteria of the meltdowns of plants like Three Mile Island. And Huebsch they’ll do anything to delay another nuclear plant.
