SUAMICO, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A trip down the zip line at the NEW Zoo in Suamico is a popular outing for many people, but imagine doing this when you’re 70, or even 80 years old.
Four area seniors were able to not only make it down the line but check this adventure off their bucket list.
Zipline experts got the group strapped in and ready to go Monday morning.
Marge Willis tells FOX 11, she was a little nervous.
“We’re all going to give it a shot. Well, we’re thinking just bring us back in one piece.”
Marly Divver has ziplined before.
“It’s neat. It’s fun, it’s exhilarating.”
The foursome lives at Touchmark retirement Community in Fox Crossing.
Annie Vlach is Touchmark Life Enrichment Director.
“This was their idea. Marly Divver, one of our residents at Touchmark had the idea, and she helped us recruit some other residents who also apparently had this on their bucket list. So, we’re all about making bucket list dreams come true.”
The group made its way to the top the 50-foot tower. There were some final instructions.
“Three, two one, go!” shouted one instructor.
Divver was the first to step off. She spun to the right, then recovered to the left, reaching speeds of 25-35 miles per hour.
“What a lot of fun I was having”
After about 30 seconds. the 1,000-foot long trip was over. Automatic brakes brought the zipliners to a stop on the tower below.
Divver says she’s glad she made the trip.
“I am. I hope they are.”
Bill Geenen tells FOX 11….
“It’s been on my bucket list for a long time. And it’s the first opportunity I had, so it was fun.”
“Yeah, I could do it again. I don’t know why I would need to, but I could do it again,” said Willis.
After the zip lining, the four seniors visited the animals at the zoo and then had lunch before heading back to Fox Crossing.
