Why would I want to learn about Wheelchair basketball?

by Jason Miller

hen you think of wheelchair basketball, what do you think of?  Do you think old hospital chairs, old people and or people who can't care for themselves, that just getting out and getting some exercise is great?  Well if you answered yes to any of those questions and you live in Wisconsin, do I have a deal for you.  Check out this link which will take you to the UW-Whitewater wheelchair basketball page and show you what they want to teach you with their Cornerstones program.  If you have a child or grandchild in a Wisconsin school they will come, for a fee and show you why wheelchair basketball players are worth your while.  As a former Warhawk, I can talk about this program on a personal level.

What will you learn for example.  You will learn that wheelchair basketball players are WAY faster than you think.  You will learn that wheelchair basketball players can dribble and push their chairs at the same time, probably better than most able bodied basketball players.  And you will learn that the three ball can be made from DEEEEEEEP.  Lastly what you will learn, is that they are just basketball players who play from a wheelchair.  If you call and set up a visit and your close to the Green Bay area, email me, jason.miller@mwcradio.com and I will come out and help you take on the athletes they send out to play against your schools team/faculty.

If you are somewhere else in the country, like Texas - University of Texas at Arlington, Missouri - The University of Missouri, Edinboro - Edinboro University,  Illinois - University of Illinois, Marshall, MN - Southwest Minnesota State University and Arizona, University of Arizona.  They all have wheelchair basketball teams and I'm guessing all have programs similar to Whitewater's.

Remember support disabled sports because someday you may need them.
