Yes, the Confederate Flag at the White House Should be Condemned, But...

by Jerry Bader

Democratic House Members today called on Republicans to condemn a protester who brought a Confederate flag to the White House over the weekend. I've long disagreed with some conservatives on this; in my mind the Confederate flag is a racist symbol and is offensive. It's impossible for me to see the display of this flag in front of a White House occupied by a black president as anything but overtly racist. And I personal condemn it here and now. But, a few other thoughts.

I'm seeing several media reports of "protesters," plural carrying a confederate flag. I could be wrong on this, but in all the coverage I've seen, one man did this. One man out of all of those present. Liberals of, of course, have no problem smearing an entire group of people over the actions of one person. He's not a noteworthy figure; nobody ever heard of this guy outside his hometown until this weekend. So would it be Republican's first impulse to repudiate the actions of one idiot at a protest? Probably not. And if they condemn it now, it appears that they're bowing to the pressure of the left. And more importantly...

It's more than a little hypocritical of the left to pounce on this when they give famous liberals a pass for offensive comments of their own. So, unlike them, I will not be a hypocrite; I condemn the actions of Michael Ashmore of Hooks, Texas. His display of the Confederate flag at the White House was offensive and I condemn. Okay, libs, your turn.
