Shocker, Lady Gaga defends Miley Cyrus soft-porn video

by Jerry Bader

Actually, I'm mildly surprised she's okay with the freak show competition.  Cyrus herself has tried to defend the "Wrecking Ball" video, saying people need to look past her nudity(good luck with that) and appreciate the work for its artistic beauty. That's the point entirely. If the nudity is irrelevant, then why include it? If the song stands on it own merit, why sit naked on a wrecking ball and simulate fellatio on a sledge hammer?

You can't have it both ways. You're either appeal to the most prurient interests of your audience or your trying to impress them with artistic beauty. Cyrus' video has more than 60 million hits in 3 days online. I'm guessing the sound was even on for millions of those views. If Cyrus thought she'd get those kinds of hits with her clothes on, she wouldn't have done it naked.

As for Lady Gaga; people are criticizing Cyrus because taking your clothes off to get attention is the original cheat. And Cyrus is now on track to keep trying to do something more outrageous than last time. That can't end well.
