Create Panic Much?

by Jerry Bader

Each of these stories has me asking the same question; do they really believe this nonsense or they intentionally alarmist? First, the climate assessment is long on hysteria and very short on science. Secondly, most of the "cities underwater" hyperbole is coming from a separate report that a huge ice sheet breaking loose from Antarctica could cause the oceans to rise some four feet. What's been virtually unreported is that assessment says that could happen in 500 to 1000 years. It also fails to mention that an active volcano beneath the Antarctic ice could very well be responsible for the ice melt.

Of course, we've been hearing these fantastic predictions for decades. If you are unfamiliar with their track record, here you go. But given that we live in a short attention span theater world, the alarmists continue to believe they can throw this stuff out there. In fact, back in 2007, the IPCC said it was already too late to reverse the effects of global warming ; that nothing we could do at this point would make a difference. Of course, they argued we should try anyway. And you'll note that proclamation came with all sorts of scary predictions seven years ago of what would happen in the next ten years. How close are we to those predictions, huh?
