Fantasy Football best thing to ever happen to NFL

by Chris Schulte

I come into the office this morning and I hear all this chatter about last night's 49-27 Denver win over Baltimore in the NFL season opener.

I'm a huge NFL fan, even though I was glued to the Yankees-Red Sox game last night, but I was surprised by how much interest the Broncos vs. Ravens game had created.

Within a couple of minutes I realized why everyone was concerned about the game: They were comparing the stats of ''their'' team to others employees' teams. Fantasy Football, while nothing new, seems to grow with interest each year and their does not appear to be an end in sight. I would argue that it has played a big part in helping the NFL overtake Major League Baseball as the most popular sport in the country.

Myself? I have never quite understood it, never had the time to play in a league and never really found an interest in joining a league. For me, it doesn't matter because I'm not sure my interest in the league could get any more intense, but Fantasy Football has certainly brought people to the game who otherwise wouldn't care.

I, though, certainly am in the minority.
